About the Car:

The Nissan R89C was a formidable contender developed for the World Sportscar Championship and the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship. Built around a Lola-designed Kevlar/carbon-fiber monocoque chassis (T89/10), it was powered by the monstrous Nissan VRH35Z, a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine capable of producing over 800 horsepower. At the 1989 24 Hours of Le Mans, car #23 was piloted by the all-Japanese “Nismo” dream team of Masahiro Hasemi, Kazuyoshi Hoshino, and Toshio Suzuki. While the car showed incredible speed, qualifying 15th, the team faced the brutal reliability challenges typical of the Group C era, retiring on lap 167. Despite the result, the R89C remains a cult classic for its raw power and its role in paving the way for the legendary R90CK.
